Job Description

Directs the activities and services of the Central Maintenance Shops in order to enhance the effectiveness of the crews, focus maintenance reliability efforts and coordinate relevant contractor services and repairs. May, at times, coordinate the execution of the mill's preventive/predicative maintenance programs including vibration analysis, lubrication & oil analysis, motor testing and infrared surveys and maintains monthly KPI's for those efforts. Assures reliable records on all crane/hoists in the mill. Responsible for the housekeeping, monthly inspections, and the crew safety appropriate to all Central Shops.

  • Plan and directly supervise work execution for: Machine Shop, Mobile Equipment, Heavy Equipment, Pump/Gear, Crane crew, Tool House, and Facility Maintenance (including
    contract plumbing and pest control)
  • Access training needs and develop training plans
  • Indirectly supervise contract janitorial services
  • Control the Blanket Awards for (current list)
  • Asheville Oil to purchase lubricants
  • Holston Oil (oil disposal)
  • Lowes to purchase lumber/hardware
  • Canton Automotive/NAPA automotive parts
  • Schenck Treble (Balance Machine) service agreements
  • Liaison to Exxon Mobile/Asheville Oil for our oil analysis program and engineering services to improve lubrication practices mill-wide
  • Fill in supervisor for the Reliability group


Special Knowledge Skills:

  • 5 years experience related to maintenance of pumps, gears, etc.
  • Bachelors degree - preferably Mechanical, Electrical or Pulp/Paper Science
  • General knowledge of Pulp and Paper processes and equipment
  • Ability to supervise salaried professionals and hourly journeymen
  • Good business judgment
  • Good communication skills both oral and written
  • Skillful in working with several constituents
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Aptitude for maintenance basics and repair techniques
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with subordinates, peers and others
  • Skilled at planning, allocation of time, organizing, setting priorities and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to analyze problems, develop sound creative solutions and take corrective actions
  • Proficient in Windows/MS Office,
  • Beneficial if experienced in SAP systems: Work Orders, Purchase Orders and reports, Intelex
