Job Description

The Engineer will be primarily responsible for analyzing and managing GEC’s rail and inbound network. Using analytical, engineering, financial, and business acumen, the engineer will perform modeling and analytics to quantify GEC’s current state. The Engineer will identify, design, and implement supply chain solutions to improve efficiencies and service with understanding of impacts to cost, working capital (fixed assets and inventory), GEC’s customers, suppliers, existing distribution channels, and overall business requirements. The ideal candidate will understand rail networks, rail rate negotiation tactics, railcar lease programs, inbound material flow processes, and supply chain visibility. A successful candidate must be capable of collaborating with the business to identify and implement solutions to meet strategic goals.


  • Rate negotiations with railroads
  • Leased railcar negotiations and management
  • Inbound material flow mapping
  • Modeling working capital opportunities in the supply chain
  • Creation of network performance metrics (Inventory, velocity, cost, risk, agility, and flexibility)
  • Work with IT and TMS technology to extract and manage logistics data
  • Leadership of a continuous improvement culture within network design
  • Financial analysis and tracking of impact of each network strategy and initiative


Required Skills

  • At least 5 years logistics experience, particularly in the rail industry. Examples include practical experience in warehousing, ocean export/import, domestic trucking, inland port and rail operations
  • B.S or B.A from 4 year accredited university
  • Advanced analytical background
  • Strong presentation skills

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of process improvement and best practices programs (Six Sigma, Lean Methodologies, etc.)
  • Tableau
  • Prior use of benchmarking
  • Experience with ERP software packages (such as SAP or Oracle)
  • Experience integrating merged or acquired business units
  • Project Management or APICS certification, MBA a plus
