Job Description

Supervise the Electrical and Mechanical Reliability Groups and their activities for the Canton Facility. In addition, upkeep the entire facilities Reliability Program by working with the different maintenance areas across the mill to ensure correct practices are in place. This also includes oversight for Vibration Analysis, Motor Inspection and Testing, Pump and Gear rebuilding, Truck and Heavy Equipment Repair, Machine Shop, and Shift Repair.  Must be able to work within budget constraints, communicate effectively, manage time input of employees (Kronos) and execute within union contracts.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Daily supervision of craftsmen and Vibration Technicians
  • Provide direction to salary engineer and two nonexempt reports
  • Continue to maintain and develop the mill’s Reliability program
  • Communicate appropriately to areas supported
  • Ability to create needed reliability procedures for equipment
  • Manage activities to meet production goals, increase uptime and increase the efficiency of machines and craftsmen
  • Attend and conduct necessary meetings, define specialized training needs and work within scheduled work time to allow employees to attend training
  • Develop training plans for crew
  • Manage timekeeping, overtime functions, vacation schedules, floaters and vacancies
  • Be available as needed during unexpected downtime
  • Support occasional weekend duty


Special Knowledge Skills:

  • Detailed understanding of Vibration Analysis –Category 2 or better
  • Detailed understanding of Electrical and Mechanical Predictive and Preventive Maintenance techniques for Motors, High Voltage equipment, Low voltage equipment, bearings, gears, pumps, lubrication, etc.
  • Must have complete understanding of maintenance operations and its impact on profitability
  • Must be a leader and self-starter
  • Must have strong communication as well as interpersonal skills
  • Must act as a member of a team with a common goal in mind
  • Must possess supervisory skills
  • Must be able to manage many tasks at once and prioritize as needed
  • 3 to 5 years in maintenance reliability and supervision
  • Thorough understanding and use of the computer based operating system - SAP, Word, Excel, and Project

Preferred Skills:

  • A four-year BSME/BSEE 
  • Prior supervisory experience with an hourly work force in a union work environment
  • Working knowledge of maintenance workflow software or similar 
  • Working knowledge of Results Oriented Reliability and Maintenance Programs
  • AutoCAD and Kronos familiarity
  • Work in a large manufacturing facility such as Pulp/Paper, Steel, Petroleum
