Job Description

The primary responsibility of this position is too coordinate the operation functions for the 11&12 Paper manufacturing department.  The department consists of two 225” Fourdrinier Paper Machines and associated equipment including stock preparation and winding.   The machines produce basis weights that  range from 40#/3300sqft Offset and Rapier grades up to 134# Cup Stock.  The department also produces FDA approved food and bag grades as well as color Reply card.  This position will act as a liaison between operations, maintenance and upper management.  The primary focus is to ensure that the daily needs of the department are met and to ensure that long-term solutions to issues are permanently resolved.  This is a perfect position for someone that flourishes in building systems for prevention and variation reduction. This position is best suited for someone who wants to work up to a Superintendent role within the next 5 years.

Specific Job Activities: 

  • Monitor manufacturing process daily
  • Identify trends and relationships between variables
  • Reduce waste; material, time & energy
  • Daily process optimization
  • Work closely with maintenance to plan and execute maintenance outages
  • Stay current with industry technology and apply in daily activity
  • Use skills and knowledge to coach and teach others
  • Work closely with sales team to meet demands of customers
  • Work closely with technical group on product development opportunities
  • Ensure company policy and procedures are being utilized and followed


  • BS degree is Paper Science, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is preferred; however, other degrees or equivalent experience will be considered
  • 3 years of experience in the paper industry with a technical understanding of   papermaking equipment and processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills are equally as important along with ability to teach and coach others
  • Able to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization in a team setting
  • Organized approach to work and ability to deal with multiple competing priorities to make appropriate decisions
  • A history of obtaining results through analytical means along with track record of building preventative systems
  • A foundation in Lean manufacturing, formal troubleshooting skills and the ability to apply Six Sigma tools to problem solving 
  • Proven safety record and knowledge of industry safety standards
  • Strong leadership Skills
  • Goal Oriented, ability to deliver results in areas of safety, reliability and cost
  • Good planning and organization skills
